Frontier City
There’s been a ton of things going on in my life lately and I wanted to go to my happy place so late on Sunday I decided to run over to Frontier City. I got to the park around 7 to find a ton of empty spots in the lot which makes a bunch of sense since it was late on a Sunday and it was misting. So I decided to see if the haunts were running and it looked like the free ones were closed which was a shame. So I decided that instead I was just gonna get a bunch of rides in.
So I headed around the park and started at Steel Lasso.
Steel Lasso - 62/100
This is just a fun ride. It’s a family coaster so it’s not particularly intense but the way the trains are set up, they’re so airy and you feel like you’re flying more than some of the actual flying coasters. No line for this ride which was awesome!
Silver Bullet - 65/100
Anton is indeed a master! Just like Steel Lasso, this ride had no line but I decided to wait a train to sit in the front. It was much better than I remember from a few years ago. Very fast was my impression, the loop was forceful and it was just a ton of fun. What was really interesting is that the back of the headrests of the trains had the old school Six Flags logo on them. I assume that they were leftovers from another park, maybe Astroworld? (After some sleuthing, it looks like it was from Astroworld’s shuttle loop)
Wildcat x8 - 68/100
Wildcat is my favorite coaster at Frontier City. It’s an old wooden coaster relocated from a park in KS with slight modifications. It’s a pretty standard out and back coaster but what makes it interesting is that it’s all through the woods and tonight in the dark, that was an awesome experience. The only lights through the entire course was on the lift hill. From the drop to the final brakes you were in pitch black flying through the woods. Since this coaster also had no wait I ended up getting the chance to ride the front, back and every row minus the second, third and fourth (out of 9, I got 6/9). My favorite was definitely the fifth. This was a middle row that was by far the smoothest with the most airtime. It didn’t feel any noticeably slower than the back. After riding it the 6 times, there started to be some line so at this point I decided to call it a night!
Before leaving I decided to check out Freakshow Deluxe. I remember seeing it a few years ago and it was just about what I remember. Really entertaining show!
What a night, this was one of my favorite park trips of all time. It’s so awesome to be able to just randomly decide to go to a park. I think I decided that wherever I end up living I definitely want to be within 30 minutes of a park.
