Frontier City

Christmas Tree in the Main Hall

I really like the trend around the industry of having the park open for the holidays. It shortens the off-season which as all enthusiasts can tell you is the worst time of the year. So I was really excited when Frontier City announced that they were going to be having a Holiday in the Park. The first weekend was last weekend when I was out of town but I made sure to check it out on December 2nd. Since it was a Sunday night I was hoping that the park would be relatively empty, especially considering that it was a new event. I was rewarded with a nearly empty parking lot when I pulled in. It put a smile on my face walking down FC’s main street with all of the buildings covered in lights with a tree at the end of the street.

The entire park was completely covered with lights and there was a roaming caroling troupe that would stop every few minutes to sing some carols.

Although the decorations were amazing, that’s not the reason I came! Luckily, just as I was expecting, the lines were really short, with a train wait being my longest queue all night. So I started at Steel Lasso.

Steel Lasso - 60/100

I normally go for the front for this ride (and for all B&M inverts for that matter) but today I figured I’d give the back a shot. It was still a very fun ride but I definitely didn’t like it nearly as much as I did in the front. There’s not nearly the same flying sensation when you can see the car in front of you.

Silver Bullet - 55/100

This was the biggest disappointment for me this trip. I still enjoyed the ride but I was a lot more disoriented than I thought I was going to be. It might just be an issue of dehydration but I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I did last time.

Still my favorite coaster here! I sat on a wheel seat my first ride and wasn’t as impressed as I have been but then decided to go around again in my favorite seat (2-2) and I was rewarded with a really smooth ride with a few pops of airtime. Definitely give this seat a shot if you’re at the park!

At this point I headed over to the kids area to see if I could ride Wild Kitty even though it says that if you’re over 54” you need a kid. I asked the ride op and got denied. Ohh well, it was worth a try!

On the way out I decided to stop at everyone’s favorite Arrow launched loop. This ride was actually my first zen ride as I was the only person in the train. Although it wasn’t too rough, it disoriented me even worse than Silver Bullet, to the point where I think that was my last ride for the night!

Another great trip to Frontier City! This little park always manages to impress me. Of course I wish it had a star coaster. Something like Monster at Adventureland in IA would do great here, although my 100% not going to happen dream is an RMC Raptor. Regardless, I’m happy to have such a nice little park so close to me!
